I just installed some 9-42 ernie ball colbalts on my gv wood. i've used these strings in the past, they're good, they last.  My guitar tech suggested that next string change I try some pure nickel strings, like the DR Pure Blues, he said they should be warmer and he thought that would be something I would like... given the guitar is on the brighter side.

What strings do you guys use?  Does anyone use pure nickel on their vigiers? im curious to hear what others think, and what strings they prefer. Thanks!

10-52 Elixirs - they last longer for me, my (aliens blood) sweat seems to corrode other strings in no time at all!

I like Pure Nickels on my Telecaster but they wouldn't be my choice on my Excal, I don't have a GV (yet?!?) but again it wouldn't be what I'd go for if I did. Unless you want to mellow it out for some reason.

I'm installing 09-46 DR Pure Blues tomorrow to try them out for a little while.  After that I'm most likely going back to Ernie Ball, and going up to a set of 11-48 strings.

Vigier basses in my case!I have had sets of D'Addario Balanced Tension 120-50 on my Excess for the last 5 years or so. Terrific for lower tuned rock. THere are really very few good sets of strings for bassists who use alternate tunings (drop C/D standard or classic C# Black Sabbath tuning). The D'Addarios are great strings and are not even that expensive. On my five string Arpege, I was using DR DDT 135-55 strings tuning the bass down to a low A. I have found that the DR strings are very unbalanced in terms of tension from string to string and have quite a 'dark' tone to them. I have since gone back to a standard set of D'addario light gauge stainless steel strings 125-40 and I am back playing in standard tuning. It sounds much better now.
