Ok, I shall 'try' to be impartial…

For me the G.V. Wood is the definitive version of the G.V. series. I am not usually a single-cut guy…but this is one that won me over.

I play all styles - and having owned a rather nice Gibson Les Paul in the past, there is really no contest, comparing a Ford to a Ferrari.

So, to your questions - the 'Rock' has uncovered Amber pickups - these are a bit more aggressive and open sounding, the covered versions in the 'Wood' ooze a bit more of a classic, refined vibe - that said, in the right application both sound better than most other p/ups I have tried.

The Maple cap on the Wood adds the touch of elegance and a bit more high/mid-end punch - but at volume this is more aesthetic than anything.

This brings us to Phenowwod V Rosewood. This is subjective and a case of feel. The Phenowood has more the feel of Maple, without the 'resistance' that you feel with Rosewood.

Tbh - it is like trying to choose between which of your children you adore the most - both are phenomenal guitars, both are at the very pinnacle of modern technology, but retaining enough classic vibe to play any style incredibly well. Whichever one you go for you will not be disappointed. For me, I went with the Wood, as it is that step above the Rock - not to say the Rock is a poor guitar - just the Maple cap, covered p/ups and Phenowood fingerboard take ethos guitar to single-cut heaven.

Just to add a footnote - as I said I am not a single-cut guy, but without doubt, the G.V. Wood is my best sounding and (joint) favourite guitar to play.

NGD: very lightly used Vigier G.V. Wood in Ebony Fade.  Just removed the strings and gave it a wipe.

well done! great looking axe, congrats again !

you'll be amazed how long it stays in tune, and how resonant it is once you put fresh strings on her.

Does anyone know roughly how many GV Wood, or any GV for that matter, were made in 2009?  I just dicovered that this one was made in Aug, 2009!  the Serial number is 0106.

For what it's worth, my amber finish GV Wood is #102. I haven't removed the neck though, so no idea which date may be stamped.

There's another amber GV Wood in Madrid (another owner), which is #101.
