Hello,

I've had an Excalibur special for 12 years, it's a brilliant guitar and it has a lot of sentimental value for me and my wife, however if I'm honest I never really got on with the sound, it's a bit too cold and clinical for my taste and lacks wood for lack of better word.

Would you guys be able to suggest replacements for a warmer tone ? I don't play super high gain, my favourite type of sound is Robben Ford type light saturation.

I'll never sell this guitar so I'm happy to do light modifications if required though I want to keep the HSH config to keep the spirit of the guitar intact.

I was hoping for more precise suggestions than just boutique name brands :)

It'a less about the name and more about the correct voicing of a particular pickup for the instrument and the tone  I'm after.

Virgil Arlo makes only one set of humbuckers and strat pickups... they are very expensive . Bare Knuckle Stormy Mondays or Mules could do the job, Kloppmann 57,58 ,59 sets are great. Very expesive too.

What i would do is contact the companies direclty and ask them. They are really helpful. Some have audio clips on their sites and forums.

That's a good suggestion.

I've been talking to bare knuckles and will try a couple of other uk boutique ones.

The other ones in your list are a bit too expensive for me.

After various tests with different humbuckers on an alder guitar, I settled with these two:

Seymour Duncan SH1 '59 neck Seymour Duncan Alnico II bridge

Interesting. Actually was thinking about putting an SD Alnico II Pro in the bridge of a GV Wood.
