I am the proud owner today of a new Excalibur Supraa in urban blue. The strings on it are 9's. I guess i can use 11's instead?

Congrats !!

About going from 9s to 11s.... I bet you'll need a new nut (or have yours filed)... Otherwise you'll get tuning issues as strings will get trapped in the "too-narrow-nut-slots"

Wildwire guitars has nuts on stock btw

Thanks for the reply. Didn't realise I would have to have a new nut. May decide to stick to 9's.

Congratulations - welcome to the Vigier owners family!

Our nuts are interchangeable (very easy) and cut for different gauges. So you can just 'pull' off the 9's nut and push on the nut cut for 11's…then change back when you feel like it. They are not very expensive and available to order from Vigier dealers.

Thanks for your help, very kind. I may change to 10's strings.

i have a Fender Deluxe Strat and had Graphtech saddles and nut *, but the tuning is not great, so I am relieved at last I have found a guitar that keeps in tune!

i have Vigier Excess bass that i have been playing for a couple of years and it is great especially with the active curcuitry.far better than a Fender Jazz bass.

I guess if i replaced the nut myself, I would just need to tighten or loosen the tremolo bracket to handle the slightly heavier 10's?

If you change to a thicker gauge AND keep same tuning, strings will pull stronger than before, so they may lift the bridge from the current position (it depends on a few factors).

If the bridge moves very little, it may still be acceptable for you, ... if not, it you'll need to tighten a bit the claw screws to return to the previous position and reach the same "balance".

Makes sense?

.... also, to reach balance, you may add another spring or change the positioning of the existing ones to reach (angle or "triangle")

Yes that makes sense. I know with my Strat i had to adjust the claw screws. I wouldn't add an extra spring or use the triangle spring configuration.

Replaced the new nut 10-52 myself. Simple procedure taking the old nut out and tightening the clamp for the tremolo springs. Although I * standard 10-48 strings, i can't see there will be tuning problems.
