String Gauge change

Hi there,

My Excalibur Ultra currently has size 9's on it and I'm thinking of going to 10's or even 11's. I realise I may have to redo the intonation but what I'm wondering is would the saddles need raising to stop any string buzzing?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

As with any guitar, your action and intonation will need adjusting. The beauty of a Vigier is that with the 10/90 neck system, you do not have to worry about any neck adjustments.

You might want to get a replacement nut cut for your new gauges (it is easy to change the our Teflon nuts).

What adjustments would be necessary when increasing the string gauges on a surfreter with a brass nut? Also, what level of string tension can these necks realistically take without the risk of damage?

The Surfreter comes with 11's, so you should not have to worry about the brass nut. Any other adjustments would be as per usual (intonation and action at bridge).

The total strength of the necks is very stable, maybe I can get some actual data, but carbon fibre is extremely strong as well as lightweight. This is part of the secret beauty of a Vigier.
