Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I bought a set of Schaller strap locks today and I can confirm they definitely do not fit a Vigier Excalibur guys :( 

It seems to me that not much does actually fit an Excalibur, it feels like it's been designed to deliberately discourage upgrades/changes.

In the last 2 weeks I have bought 2 x new tone pots that won't fit an Excalibur, a new humbucker that won't fit an Excalibur (without modding) and a set of strap locks that do not fit an Excalibur.  Arrrgh.... 

This guitar is already hard work and I have barely played it for more than 10 hours.

I understand your frustration

The new Schaller do not fit the Excalibur because they decided to make the screw part of the button, meaning that we cannot change the screws anymore! If you find a old set all what you have to do is redrill at 4mm the hole. I have not investigate yet, but I'm sure there are straplock that will fit the 4mm Vigier's screw. Our system is not standard, I'm sorry but if we decided to put a metal insert in the guitar it is because in extreme live condition it is useless to use straplocks with a wood screw that wont stay in the guitar.

Regarding the pickups, I'm sorry if the entire guitar industrie is underdevelopped and still use 2 screws. However Seymour Duncan Trembucker allow to use any combinaison of screws....so it is one solution but only for the bridge position, for the other position you have to drill and make a thread on the pickup base.

For the pot, what we use is very standard.....

I belueve you could get away all Vigier owners (and many luthiers) from these frustrations and pain rather easily, or just to save time and make the Vigier owner's family a much happier one.

Upload on a FAQ section a series of pics/diagrams of the non-standard things that we may find in a Vigier, along with a reference of the original replacement when available (Schaller, Gotoh, whatever).

It should be just a few items:

-strap pins/insert specs

-pickguard (pickup cavities' dimensions, screw holing pattern)

-pickup leg holing (bridge/neck), with diameter & thread, and the famous 3-hole metal plate accessory

-zero fret replacement (already a good video), maybe missing to specify fret tang size

-jack barrel assembly

I don't think that should take more than a couple afternoons to gather the info, and I don't think you would notice any relevant losses of pickguards or zero fret sales, but a raise on guitar sales due to more satisfaction on end users when modding/repairing their Vigiers.

So you think I will still need to drill the hole in my Vigier to fit straplocks?  Won't this cause a problem because of the metal insert in the guitar?

I suspect he meant drilling the schaller strap/pin button, in order to allow the original «vigier» screw to fit and be reused.... leaving untouched the guitar insert & screw
